Find the source
Review breathers, seals, stored oil, transfer equipment, washdown practices and possible cooler leaks. Record when the problem occurs: startup, washdown, rain exposure, heat cycling or prolonged shutdown can provide useful context.
Measure with a suitable method
Ask the laboratory to select a water test appropriate to the fluid and the decision being made. Appearance alone is insufficient. Avoid comparing unlike measurements without understanding their units and test conditions.
Protect the fluid formulation
Not every liquid should have water removed. Water-based hydraulic fluids and other formulated mixtures require a compatible filtration approach. Confirm the fluid and media before installing a cellulose element.
Verify sustained improvement
Trend the result after corrective work and cartridge servicing. A rapidly exhausted cartridge may indicate continuing ingress, a heavy initial load or a mismatched application; do not assume a new element has solved the underlying fault.
